| RFID Is Only Part of the Story |
| Recently, there has been a lot of interest in the use of RFID (radio frequency identification) devices to provide the real-time visibility to the physical world. When RFID becomes pervasive, it will undoubtedly be a revolutionary technology. But at its core, RFID is still only an enabling technology and by itself, does not solve business problems. These business problems include: Out-of-Stocks, Product Shrinkage, Counterfeiting, Reconciliation/Deductions, and Product Obsolescence. |
| In reality, the world will slowly evolve to incorporate RFID technology, with a groundswell of targeted RFID-enabled applications. In the meantime, the business problems still exist and they cannot wait until RFID is pervasive. These problems need to be solved with the existing technologies that include legacy systems, barcode readers, point-of-sale systems, inventory management systems, etc. |
| The Power of Active Intervention™ |
| In today’s demand-driven supply chains, the answer to these complex business challenges lies in building active applications that will respond to critical issues before they become blown out problems that impact the business. This “active” intervention principle allows applications to fully leverage real-time data to provide actionable insights into the business. These insights can then be turned into “intervention” by issuing recommended directives to the managers that can correct the problem (like store managers, etc.). In this way, the organization runs as normal, until another exception event prompts further active intervention. This management by active intervention frees a lot of time to allow you to focus on core business issues, as opposed to operational issues. |
