| rfXcel Active ePedigree Management™ allows manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to meet regulatory requirements for tracking the chain of custody of prescription medication throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain. New pedigree laws, in an effort to combat counterfeit drugs from entering the supply chain, require trading partners to provide authenticated transaction history of prescription drugs. rfXcel Active ePedigree Management™ leverages the rfXcel AIA architecture and enables real-time workflow and notification mechanisms to correct for pedigree issues before they become problems. In this way, trading partners are enabled to intervene in real-time when issues are detected. |

| Business Problem |
| Counterfeit drugs are increasingly becoming a significant issue for pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, retailers, as well as consumers. Worldwide estimates indicate that approximately 10% of pharmaceutical drugs are counterfeit, with most of the problem occurring in underdeveloped countries. With increasingly porous borders, the flow of counterfeit drugs into developed countries will continue to drive strict regulations to protect the security of the pharmaceutical supply chain. Given the complicated nature of the pharmaceutical supply chain – drugs are often traded several times between manufacturer and retailer, it is often difficult to trace the chain of custody for such a large volume of pharmaceuticals. |
| New regulations have passed that require trading partners to provide authenticated and signed ePedigree documents of all prescription drugs as a requirement for distributing and dispensing of drugs. Florida’s pedigree law was the first to act, requiring compliance by July 1st, 2006. Soon after, California, Nevada, Indiana and other states will follow with their versions of ePedigree requirements. |
| Managing ePedigree documents for compliance is a huge process issue. Few companies will be able to manage with a paper-based ePedigree system.
